Brooklyn-based guitarist Aleif Hamdan blends jazz, blues, and rock with a unique Southeast Asian influence. A Berklee graduate, his debut album Emblem earned critical acclaim for its joyful fusion and original compositional voice.
Aleif Hamdan is a guitarist and composer originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Growing up in Southeast Asia, he was exposed to a diverse and eclectic palette of music, which heavily influenced his artistic voice. He moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2010 to study at the International College of Music, where he earned a reputation in the regional music scene by winning several competitions and awards. In 2012, he received the Berklee Achievement Scholarship and moved to the United States to further his exploration of music. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music. Hamdan's debut album, Emblem (2016), is a jazz-blues-rock fusion project that showcases his skills as both a soloist and a composer. The album received significant critical acclaim, including a 5/5 review from UK Vibe, which described his music as "spellbinding, courageous, and above all, joyful," noting his potential as a leading light in the jazz world. While critics have drawn comparisons to guitarists like Pat Metheny, Adam Rogers, and Frank Zappa, Hamdan is recognized for having a truly original sound. Beyond his solo work, he is an in-demand session player and arranger, having collaborated on projects with artists from the United States, India, Japan, and beyond. Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, he continues to develop his voice in the modern jazz and fusion scenes.
