Bassist Chang You Lee transitioned from classical roots to jazz, honing his craft through the NTCH camp. A fixture in Taipei since 2022, he has collaborated with Michael Wang and Benjamin Holt, blending technical precision with innovative rhythm.
Bassist Chang You Lee, a native of Hualien, began his musical journey in classical music, studying piano and violin throughout his primary and middle school years. His transition to jazz was sparked by internet radio, where the genre’s innovative rhythms and textures offered a compelling contrast to his classical roots. During his university years, Lee honed his craft through the campus jazz club, the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH) jazz camp, and the Koswing Big Band in Tainan. Since 2022, he has become a fixture in the Taipei jazz scene, performing original music with artists such as Michael Wang, Brandon Lin, and Gin Lin. His notable collaborations include masterclass performances with drummer Fish Huang and a featured appearance with Canadian guitarist Benjamin Holt at the Taipei Jazz Festival.
