Chun Leung is a versatile double bassist with a rich background in classical and contemporary performance. Formerly Principal Bassist of the Saskatoon Symphony, he now balances international festival appearances with his faculty role at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Chun Leung is a professional double bassist with a background spanning classical and contemporary performance. Raised in Toronto, Leung began playing the bass at the age of 10. Initially self-taught, they went on to pursue formal musical education at the University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Music, followed by a diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master’s degree from Michigan State University. Throughout their training, Leung studied under distinguished instructors including Kevin Brown, Scott Dixon, Kristen Bruya, and Edward Tait. Leung's professional career includes serving as the Principal Bassist of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and performing with prominent ensembles such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, Windsor Symphony, Flint Symphony, and Ann Arbor Symphony. An active participant in the international festival circuit, Leung has appeared at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria, the Wabass Institute, and the Orford Music Academy. Currently, Leung is associated with the Department of Music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
