Deo Karmawan is a prominent guitarist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, recognized as a founding member and the lead guitarist of the high-energy 8-piece funk-soul ensemble RYÖT JONES. Since the band's inception in 2016, Karmawan has been instrumental in shaping their signature "festival funk" sound alongside vocalist Kyren Thomas. Known for his technical prowess—described by his bandmates as a "beast" on the instrument—he plays a central role in the group’s creative process, contributing to the arrangements of singles such as "Dancing Shoes," "Blessed," and "Radio." Drawing from a diverse palette of influences including James Brown, Vulfpeck, and Michael Jackson, Karmawan’s playing bridges soul, jazz, and rock and roll. His performance history includes major regional stages such as the Good Vibes Festival (2017 and 2019). Beyond his work with the brass-heavy collective, Karmawan is a dedicated educator, teaching guitar in the Bangsar area of Kuala Lumpur.
