A rare Taiwanese talent who flourished in the New York jazz scene, Lin WeiSheng is a versatile guitarist and bassist. Acclaimed by All About Jazz, he blends technical mastery with a profound passion for music and animal welfare.
The Lin WeiSheng Guitar Trio is led by the acclaimed jazz musician Lin WeiSheng, who is proficient in both guitar and double bass. Born in Tainan, Taiwan, Lin graduated from the Department of Philosophy at National Taiwan University before pursuing a Master of Music at the State University of New York (Purchase College), which he obtained in 2001. Following his studies, Lin established a professional career in New York City, becoming one of the few Taiwanese musicians working full-time in the NYC jazz scene. He has collaborated with notable figures such as Ralph Lalama, Bill Mays, Bob Dorough, Joe Cohn, Bobby Porcelli, T.S. Monk, Lewis Nash, and Eddie Bert. His performances have graced prestigious venues including Blue Note, Birdland, Iridium, and Lenox Lounge. Lin’s work has been recognized by All About Jazz New York, with critic Donald Elfman praising his album 'Gone With the Wind' in 2006, and the publication naming him a 'Listen Up!' artist in 2007. In this trio formation, Lin (on guitar) is joined by bassist Hsu Hsun Shun and drummer Jeffrey Lin (Lin Jun-Hong), performing a repertoire rich in jazz standards.
