Tainan-born guitarist and bassist Lin WeiSheng established a professional career in NYC, collaborating with legends like Jon Faddis and Lewis Nash. Acclaimed by All About Jazz, he now balances a busy performing schedule with dedicated animal rescue work in Taiwan.
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, guitarist and double bassist Lin WeiSheng graduated from the Department of Philosophy at National Taiwan University. After completing his military service, he moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies in jazz double bass, earning a Master of Music from the State University of New York (Purchase College) in 2001. Following his graduation, he established a professional career in New York, becoming one of the few Taiwanese musicians to work full-time in the city's competitive jazz scene. During his time in New York, he studied bass with Todd Coolman and Dennis Irwin and guitar with the legendary master Joe Puma. Lin has collaborated with a prestigious roster of jazz musicians, including Ralph Lalama, Bill Mays, Bob Dorough, Joe Cohn, Bobby Porcelli, T.S. Monk, Lewis Nash, Eddie Bert, Jon Faddis, Don Sickler, Grant Stewart, and Doug Munro. His debut album, "Gone With the Wind" (2006), was highly acclaimed by All About Jazz critic Donald Elfman, and in July 2007, the publication selected him as one of their "Listen Up!" musicians of the month. Beyond his musical achievements, Lin is deeply committed to animal welfare. In 2014, he returned to Taiwan to care for a senior rescued dog, and he continues to balance a busy professional performing schedule with dedicated volunteer work in animal rescue.
