Canadian guitarist Roy Patterson is renowned for a melodic style where every note possesses a distinct purpose and place. His artistic journey is documented across several CDs released between 1989 and 2014, earning him significant national and international acclaim. In 1997, his quartet was awarded the prestigious Prix de Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Patterson has performed extensively throughout Europe, the USA, and Canada. His playing has been lauded by The Globe and Mail for its unwavering melodic focus, while The Toronto Star described him as a perfectionist with a "big, round, and dominating sound" that transforms every performance into a stimulating experience. As a dedicated educator, he taught in the jazz program at the University of Toronto for over a decade and has been a faculty member at York University since 2003. A regular contributor to the US publication "Just Jazz Guitar" for over twenty years, he is also profiled in Scott Yanow’s "The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide." Currently on research leave from York University, he is spending an extended period in Taiwan, performing with local jazz musicians and completing his forthcoming book, "Harmony for Jazz Guitar."
