Originally trained in classical piano, Chang Pao-yuan turned to jazz after being inspired by Bill Evans. A former NCHU Jazz Club president, he studied under several masters and is now a prominent pianist active across Taiwan.
Influenced by his family from a young age, Chang Pao-yuan grew up listening to 70s and 80s music from his father's CD collection. His father would often introduce him to the characteristics of the songs and the stories behind the bands, while his mother supported his formal piano training. Originally trained in classical piano, Chang's musical world was transformed upon hearing the beautiful playing of Bill Evans, which inspired him to pursue jazz piano. Currently a student at National Chung Hsing University in Taichung, he served as the president of the university's Jazz Club. Throughout his college years, he has studied jazz theory under the guidance of Huang Yu-chieh, Chan Tsung-lin, Hsu Li-yang, and Liu Chia-en. He is an active participant in jazz performances across the Taichung area and has performed extensively in various cities including Taipei, Hsinchu, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.
