Cuban guitarist and composer Ernesto Castillo blends Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz. Having opened for legends like Gregory Porter, his masterful performances at international festivals worldwide showcase a vibrant synthesis of heritage and modern musical expression.
Ernesto Castillo (also known as Erne Castillo) is a skilled guitarist born and raised in the Cuban countryside, where his musical identity was shaped by the vibrant rhythms of Afro-Cuban music—a reflection of the syncretism between African and Spanish cultures. This rich cultural foundation serves as the bedrock for his distinctive sound, which he has expanded through the lens of jazz, blending his roots with modern musical expression. Throughout his career, Castillo has had the honor of opening for Grammy-winning legends such as Gregory Porter, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the iconic Cuban diva Omara Portuondo. His performances have resonated globally, showcasing his mastery of the guitar at prestigious events including the International Guitar Festival, the Singapore International Jazz Festival, and the Fringe World Music Festival in Australia. He is a key member of the award-winning show "Adam Hall and the Cuban Young Guns" and participated in the highly acclaimed "Flamenco y Cuba" production. As a composer, Ernesto’s works, such as his track "Aquella Primavera," are a vibrant synthesis of Cuban tradition and contemporary sensibilities, crafting evocative narratives that transcend geographical boundaries and unite cultures through sound.
