Japanese pianist Kaoru Uno is a cornerstone of Taiwan's jazz scene. A Berklee graduate and conductor of the Taipei Youth Jazz Orchestra, her Golden Melody-nominated arrangements and performances have defined local jazz excellence since 1997.
Born in Japan, Kaoru Uno began her musical journey with classical piano before immersing herself in jazz during her university years under the mentorship of Seijuro Fujisawa. A natural leader, she served as the arranger and conductor for her university jazz band while performing extensively in the local scene. She later moved to the United States to study at Berklee College of Music, majoring in Jazz Piano Performance under the tutelage of Hal Crook. Since relocating to Taiwan in 1997, Uno has become a cornerstone of the local jazz community, serving as the resident pianist at Blue Note Taipei and the conductor of the Taipei Youth Jazz Orchestra (TYJO). Her 2005 debut, "UNO『PIANO』The Jazz Piano Trio Creations," was nominated for Best Popular Music Performance Album at the 17th Golden Melody Awards. In 2006, she released "Is You Is or Is You ain’t My Baby," which was named one of Eslite Music’s top 15 jazz recommendations of the year.
