Based in Hong Kong and Taipei, Fish Huang is an acclaimed Berklee alumnus and "Best Drummer in Asia" winner. He seamlessly blends pop and jazz, collaborating with stars like Andy Lau while gracing major international jazz festivals.
Fish Huang (Huang Tzu Yu) is a highly accomplished drummer based between Hong Kong and Taipei. Originally from Taiwan, he began his musical journey in 2002 and quickly rose to prominence, becoming the youngest performer to be named Best Drummer in Asia at the Yamaha Asian Beat Grand Final at age 18. An alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, Huang has built a diverse career spanning both the pop and jazz worlds. In the pop industry, he has served as the designated drummer for superstar Andy Lau’s world tour and has collaborated with a vast array of artists including Eason Chan, Sky Wu, Richie Jen, Michael Wong, Joey Yung, Gigi Leung, Tia Ray, Crowd Lu, WeiBird, 9m88, Eve Ai, and Ailing Tai. As a jazz musician, he has been featured at prestigious international events including the Java Jazz Festival, Jazzopen Stuttgart in Germany, JZ Festival Shanghai, Taichung Jazz Festival, and Hong Kong Jazz Festival. In 2014, he formed the jazz trio The Beat Brothers, releasing their debut album the following year. Currently, he is a member of the band R.O.O.T and an instructor at the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). Huang is also a dedicated educator, founding the "Learn To Be Pro" online academy and the "Fish Huang Classroom" YouTube channel. He was a member of the rock band 831 starting in 2012 and served as a judge for the 2020 Taiwan Golden Indie Music Awards. He is an endorsed artist for Canopus Drums, Meinl Cymbals, Schlagwerk, and Vater Drumsticks.
