Taipei-born saxophonist Iming Lin masterfully bridges classical and jazz traditions. A Berklee and UArts alumnus, he released his debut album in 2019. Lin remains a vital force in Taiwan’s jazz scene through performance and education.
Iming Lin is a versatile saxophonist and composer from Taipei, Taiwan, recognized for his expertise in both classical and jazz traditions. His musical journey began at age six with piano, eventually picking up the saxophone at ten. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Shih Chien University, where he won the 2009 Concerto Competition. Following military service in the National Defense Symphony Orchestra, Lin attended Berklee College of Music on scholarship, earning a Diploma in Jazz Performance in 2017. He furthered his studies with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia (2019) and a Master of Music in Classical Saxophone Performance from Rowan University (2021). In 2019, he released his debut solo album, "The Road Ahead," featuring his quartet. Since returning to Taiwan in 2021, he formed the "Cong-Ming Duo" with pianist Hsu Tsung-Yi and has been a frequent performer at the Taipei, Taichung, and Tainan Jazz Festivals. His cross-genre collaborations include work with Golden Melody Award winner Leo Wang and appearances on the television program "The Rappers 2." In 2022, he published the instructional book "Thirty-Six Jazz Etudes." Lin currently teaches at the National Taichung University of Education, Qingshui High School, and Wenxin Elementary School.
