German tenor saxophonist Jonas Ganzemüeller is a sophisticated improviser and composer. A Manhattan School of Music alumnus, he has performed globally and featured on Bobby Sanabria’s Latin Grammy-nominated album. His debut "Midnight Runner" showcases his heart-touching artistry.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, tenor saxophonist Jonas Ganzemüeller has cultivated a distinguished career as a sideman, co-leader, and bandleader. His international presence includes performances at prestigious venues and festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Birdland in Hamburg, the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, and New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Iridium Jazz Club. Ganzemüeller earned his Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music in 2011, supported by esteemed grants from the DAAD (Germany), NFPK Huygens (Netherlands), and the Prins Bernhard scholarship. In 2010, he secured second place in the North American Saxophone Alliance competition. His refined artistry led to a featured role on Latin jazz legend Bobby Sanabria’s 2012 album "Tito Puente Masterworks," which garnered a Latin Grammy nomination. As a leader, Ganzemüeller released his debut album "Midnight Runner," featuring the acclaimed Chris Cheek. The record received widespread critical praise, with Jazz Breakfast describing his music as having "the magic to touch the depths of the heart." He is celebrated as an innovative improviser with a commanding voice and a sophisticated approach to composition.
