Patrick Lui is an award-winning pianist and composer known for his versatile mastery across jazz, pop, and classical genres. A Berklee graduate and Marvin Hamlisch Award winner, he leads his acclaimed orchestra on the international stage.
The Patrick Lui Trio is led by the award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and producer Patrick Lui. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Lui furthered his studies with a Master’s degree with distinction from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He has established himself as a prominent figure in the international jazz scene, performing in major cities such as New York, London, Paris, and Amsterdam. His trio, which has featured musicians like guitarist Wilson Lam and bassist Scott Dodd, showcases a sophisticated and versatile approach to the genre. Lui’s accolades include winning the Taichung Jazz Festival Piano Competition and the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Award for Jazz Composition. He was also a semi-finalist at the Bucharest International Jazz Competition. His work with his own jazz orchestra has reached significant milestones; the piece "Mirror Dance" was the first jazz composition nominated for "Best Serious Composition" at the CASH Golden Sail Music Awards. In 2020, he released his debut big band album, Sonder, recorded in New York City with acclaimed jazz musicians and mixed by two-time Grammy winner Mike Marciano. Beyond the jazz realm, Lui is a highly sought-after collaborator in the pop and classical worlds. He has worked extensively with the pop group RubberBand as a co-producer on award-winning albums and served as the keyboardist for Eason Chan’s "Eason Says C’mon In" world tour. In the classical sphere, he has appeared as a soloist with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as an arranger and pianist. His film scoring credits include feature films such as The Bounty, This Is Not What I Expected, and Chasing The Dragon.
