Hong Kong pianist and composer Ricky Wong is a versatile artist mentored by Ted Lo and Chihiro Yamanaka. Co-founder of the band maRK, he excels in sophisticated arrangement and improvisation, bridging genres through his performances and dedicated music education.
Ricky Wong is a Hong Kong-based pianist, keyboardist, and self-taught composer. He began piano lessons at the age of 7 and has studied under renowned Hong Kong musicians Ted Lo and Tony Carpio, as well as Universal Classics Jazz recording artist Chihiro Yamanaka. An active musician since 2011, Wong has performed with a diverse range of artists and groups, including Joey Ou, Lee Lung Kei, Angela Pang, Jun Kung, Siu Fei, Endy Chow, Jason Chan, Bianca Wu, Jolie Chan, Phil Lam, Mag Lam, Dear Jane, Gin Lee, Shandy Gan, Jeffro Chan, Shiga Lin, Kit@Chochukmo, Stranded Whale, and Matzka. In December 2012, Ricky formed the band ‘maRK’ alongside Marcus Ho, Anna Fan, and Kenny KC Lin. The group released their first EP, 'Jump Start', in 2013, featuring Wong’s original compositions. The band gained recognition performing at major events such as the Beijing Jazz Music Week, Beishan Jazz Festival, Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, and International Jazz Day concerts. Additionally, he is a member of the band ‘MARY’ and has received the Gold award for Best Original Music in the Hong Kong Student’s Short Film Competition. In 2022, he participated in the 'Jazz Composers' Lab Vol.2' with Alan Kwan, debuting original works including 'Seven Year Jump Start' and 'Piano Trio with Viola and Cello No.1'.
