SEAN Quartet brings together versatile talents from the contemporary jazz scene. Featuring graduates of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the ensemble blends technical proficiency with innovative sounds, creating an immersive and emotional musical landscape.
The SEAN Quartet is a premier jazz ensemble led by the internationally acclaimed trumpeter, composer, and educator Sean Jones. Born in Warren, Ohio, Jones's musical journey began in the church choir and shifted to the trumpet at age ten, inspired by the sound of Miles Davis. After earning his Master’s degree from Rutgers University, where he studied under the legendary William Fielder, Jones rose to prominence as the lead trumpeter for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra from 2004 to 2010. As a bandleader, Jones has released eight albums under the Mack Avenue Records label, including "Eternal Journey" (2004), "No Need For Words" (2011), and "Live from Jazz at the Bistro" (2017). His music is noted for its powerful yet lyrical tone, seamlessly blending the jazz tradition with gospel and soul influences. The SEAN Quartet showcases this sophisticated post-bop sound, emphasizing emotional melodies and a deep band chemistry reminiscent of the classic ensembles led by Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Beyond his work with the quartet, Jones is a highly sought-after collaborator, having toured with jazz icons such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Marcus Miller in the "Tribute to Miles" tour. He is also a former member of the SFJAZZ Collective and was featured on Nancy Wilson’s Grammy-winning album "Turned to Blue." A dedicated educator and activist, Jones serves as the Richard and Elizabeth Case Chair in Jazz Studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, is the artistic director of Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz, and serves as the president of the Jazz Education Network (JEN).
