Yih-Shiou Sung is a jazz pianist and composer who moved to Belgium in 2016 to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the guidance of Diederik Wissels and Nathalie Lorier. In 2021, he expanded his artistic scope by studying composition with Michelino Bisceglia, focusing on the integration of classical instrumentation with jazz, particularly through string quartet collaborations. His notable works include a short concerto for double bass and an arrangement of "Desafinado" for wind orchestra, performed by the Royal Netherlands Navy Band. In May 2022, he contributed arrangements to the Toots Thielemans Centenary concert. After returning to Taiwan in late 2024, he settled in Kaohsiung and became a vital part of the local scene, currently performing as the pianist for the Wijazz Singers. As the leader of The Galaxy Quintet, Sung’s music is deeply rooted in European jazz aesthetics, blending introspective, elegant, and sentimental qualities into a unique musical dialogue defined by delicate arrangements and distinct tonal colors.
