Terry (Timing Chou) is a prominent saxophonist in the Taiwanese jazz scene, specializing in the traditional Hard Bop style. He leads the Balanced Jazz Band, a quartet that brings together talented young musicians from the local scene. With extensive experience in both big band ensembles and small group leadership, Terry has established a significant presence in the community. He maintains a consistent performance schedule, notably holding a weekly Wednesday night residency at the iconic Blue Note Taipei. In a feature for the November 2019 issue of Taipei Pictorial, Terry shared his insights on the city's jazz culture alongside Blue Note founder Tsai Hui-yang, describing Taipei as a fast-paced environment perfectly suited for the improvisational and multicultural nature of jazz. His musical journey began in university wind bands, where he sought out jazz resources during a time when formal study was less common. A lover of New Orleans jazz, he often recommends the standard "It Could Happen to You" as the perfect soundtrack for a late-night stroll through the city, capturing a mood that is both sophisticated and romantic.
