Wei Xiang is a cornerstone of Singapore’s jazz scene. A latecomer to the genre, the pianist has collaborated with Grammy winners like Joe Lovano and currently serves as Associate Music Director for the Jazz Association (Singapore).
Wei Xiang (Tan Wei Xiang) is a prominent figure and mainstay in the Singapore jazz scene. A trained lawyer who began his foray into jazz at the age of 21, his musical career progressed rapidly after studying with Jean Michel in New York. He has since shared the stage and performed with numerous Grammy Award winners and jazz legends, including Joe Lovano, Stanley Jordan, Brian Lynch, James Morrison, and Alex Sipiagin. His acclaimed talent has led him to perform at prestigious international venues such as New York’s Blue Note and 55 Bar. In addition to his performance career, Wei Xiang is a dedicated educator and leader within the jazz community. He serves as the Associate Music Director for the Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS) and the programming director of the Sultan Jazz Club, having previously been involved with the iconic Southbridge Jazz. He also leads Grupo Clave, a South American-influenced modern jazz group featuring his own compositions and arrangements. Wei Xiang remains committed to educating the youth and fostering the flourishing future of jazz in the region.
