Alex Wu is a versatile Taiwanese percussionist and Artistic Director of Spectro 7. Blending traditional roots with jazz and Latin rhythms, this multi-award winner is a cornerstone of Taiwan’s contemporary music scene and a sought-after collaborator.
Alex Wu (Wu Cheng-chun) is a preeminent Taiwanese percussionist and the Artistic Director of Spectro 7 (異境樂團). A versatile virtuoso with deep roots in traditional Chinese music, he is a cornerstone of the Sheng-xiang Band, Sizhukong Jazz Band, and the Montunos Latin Band. A graduate of the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, Wu currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Taipei National University of the Arts. His mastery spans an extraordinary range of instruments, from the Erhu and traditional Chinese percussion to world hand drums across European, Asian, American, and African traditions, as well as Latin percussion and the drum kit. His artistic reach seamlessly bridges jazz, Latin, pop, world music, and traditional Chinese music. His career is marked by prestigious accolades, including the "Best Musician" award at the 12th (2021) and 16th (2025) Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA). He has also received the Producer Gold Medal at the Global Music Awards in both 2022 and 2023. As a member of Sizhukong Jazz Band, he contributed to the album "Paper Eagle," which won Best Instrumental Album and Best Producer at the 21st Golden Melody Awards (2010). Beyond his ensemble work, Wu is a highly sought-after session musician and educator, having collaborated with international icons such as Matthew Lien, A-Mei, Jay Chou, Jody Chiang, and Rene Liu. He is the founder of EJ Music Studio and an official endorser for De Gregorio Cajón.
