Min-Yen Hsieh is a multi-award-winning Taiwanese jazz saxophonist known for his chameleon-like versatility across genres. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, he has collaborated with legends like Otomo Yoshihide and Hiroshi Yamazaki.
Minyen Hsieh is a highly regarded, award-winning Taiwanese saxophonist born in Taipei in 1981. Beginning his professional performance career at the age of 19, he later earned his Master’s degree and a post-graduate diploma in Jazz Saxophone from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel in 2010. His musical style is characterized by strong improvisation skills and a rich tone, spanning a wide range of genres including jazz, rock, folk, hip-hop, electronic, and avant-garde music. Hsieh was the winner of the 2012 Taichung International Saxophone Competition. His work has been recognized with two Golden Melody Awards (GMA) and seven Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), including Best Jazz Song for his latest solo work, "Our Waning Love." In 2014, he released his debut album, "Firry Path," marking a significant milestone in Taiwan’s jazz history. Beyond his solo work, Hsieh is a prolific collaborator, having performed in over 800 shows since his return to Taiwan in 2011. He has toured extensively across Europe (Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg), Africa (Burkina Faso), and Asia (Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, China, and Southeast Asia). His recent projects include collaborations with international artists such as Suga Dairo, Otomo Yoshihide, Eric Thielemans, and Michael Simon. In addition to the saxophone, he plays flutes, reeds, and analog synthesizers, continually exploring the intersection of jazz and contemporary Taiwanese culture.
