Renowned Malaysian pianist Tay Cher Siang, leader of WVC, brings his signature "rojak" fusion style to this collaboration with emerging artist Jessica. Together, they blend sophisticated arrangements with modern sensibility for a unique jazz experience.
Tay Cher Siang is a distinguished Malaysian jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, widely recognized as the leader of the WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble, one of Southeast Asia’s premier contemporary jazz groups. Holding a master’s degree in jazz pedagogy, Tay has dedicated much of his career to both performance and education, teaching at several local universities and music academies. His musical philosophy is defined by a multicultural approach he calls "rojak" or "cham cham" jazz—a fusion that reflects the diverse sonic landscape of Malaysia, blending Malayan tunes, Hindi film songs, Shanghai classics, and Western jazz improvisation. Tay’s influence extends beyond the stage; he was featured in the film 'Crazy Rich Asians' and serves as a primary organizer for the Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival. In this collaborative project, Tay performs alongside Jessica (Jessica Teh), an emerging artist in the contemporary scene, combining his sophisticated arrangements and academic depth with a fresh, modern perspective.
