Italian drummer Umberto Odone is a versatile performer active in the European jazz scene. A graduate of the Brussels Royal Conservatory, he has collaborated with John Surman and currently leads projects like Supernova while performing with the Sal La Rocca Quintet.
Born in Treviglio, Italy, in 1993, Umberto Odone is a professional drummer who began his musical journey at the age of six. Initially playing pop, rock, and funk, he eventually transitioned into jazz. In 2011, he became the first Italian drummer to receive the Scuderie Capitani Drum Academy Diploma with honors, marking the start of his professional career. He furthered his education at the Accademia del Suono in Milan, studying with the renowned Maxx Furian, and earned his Bachelor's degree in Jazz Drums in Brescia in 2016. During his time in Italy, he performed with notable artists such as Giovanni Falzone, Fausto Beccalossi, and Giulio Corini. In 2017, Odone moved to the Netherlands for an Erasmus program at Conservatorium Maastricht, where he performed with Rob Bruynen and recorded with Carlo Nardozza. In 2018, he served as the drummer for the National Italian Orchestra of Italian Conservatories, performing alongside John Surman in Tel Aviv. He subsequently moved to Belgium to attend the Master program at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Brussels, graduating Cum Laude in 2020 under the tutelage of Stephane Galland. Odone is active in the European jazz scene with projects such as Supernova, the Sal La Rocca Quintet, and the Igor Gehenot Trio, and has performed at festivals including So What’s Next and Dinant Jazz.
