Boston-based bassist and composer Wenjun Wu is a Berklee Global Jazz Institute alumnus who studied under masters like John Patitucci. A versatile artist blending jazz, improv, and multidisciplinary collaborations, his music resonates across international stages with sophisticated vision.
Bassist and composer Wenjun Wu is a versatile musician well-versed in jazz, improvised music, hip-hop, and pop. Currently based in Boston, MA, he earned a Master’s Degree from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute at Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship, where he studied with masters including Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. His academic background also includes a Bachelor’s Degree from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music and a DEM from the Conservatoire du Grand Chalon in France. As a composer, Wu has written and recorded across various genres; his works have been performed at international jazz venues such as L’Arrosoir and Crescent Jazz Club in France, Blockhouse and Bear’s Place in the United States, and JZ Club and Meeting Jazz Club in China. He also co-wrote and released a Pop/Hip-Hop album for Moxuan Lee. As a bandleader, he formed Con-seer, whose 2014 self-titled EP reached high rankings on the Netease Music, Xiami Music, and Weibo Music Billboard charts. In 2019, he formed a trio to perform improvised music in collaboration with poets and live sampling. An active educator, he has taught extensively in private and online settings, helping students successfully audition for prestigious institutions including the Amsterdam Conservatory, Rotterdam Conservatory, and Grand Chalon Conservatory.
