Tonight, where's the jazz?
[Ri] New York Jazz Wave vol.2 "Ri" (離) symbolizes the stage of transcendence—a state where one has fully internalized their craft to forge a unique, personal style. In this performance, musicians move beyond the boundaries of genre to explore the infinite possibilities of every note in the air. This trio features Taiwanese vibraphonist Jack Huang, whose shimmering tones and fluid percussion create a magical atmosphere reminiscent of starlight. Joining him are New York drummer Quinton, a master of the jazz tradition who brings profound freedom and emotion to the kit, and Japanese bassist Shuji Watanabe, whose steady low-end pulse serves as the urban heartbeat, providing tension and depth to the ensemble. Jack Huang, originally from Yilan, Taiwan, is a New York-based vibraphonist, pianist, and composer known for his delicate touch and deep listening. His music blends the tranquility of Taiwanese culture with the improvisational energy of New York jazz. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music (MM in Jazz Vibraphone) where he studied under Joel Ross and Marc Cary, Jack was selected for the 2025 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency at the Kennedy Center. He has performed at prestigious venues including Dizzy’s Club, The Jazz Gallery, Smalls Jazz Club, and the National Concert Hall in Taipei.
