Tonight, where's the jazz?

Award-winning pianist Patrick Lui joins forces with drummer Steve Cheung and veteran bassist Nelson Fung for a performance centered on Modern Jazz. A recipient of the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Award for Jazz Composition, Patrick is also an acclaimed producer, notably for his award-winning work with the band RubberBand. His 2020 big band album, Sonder, was recorded in New York by two-time Grammy winner Mike Marciano and released under Sony Music. While Patrick's previous performances often highlighted his deep roots in Straight Ahead Jazz and Bebop, this trio explores a more contemporary sound. Featuring Nelson Fung’s solid bass lines and Steve Cheung’s fusion-influenced drumming—honed through years of session work for pop icons like Hins Cheung—the trio will perform works by Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, alongside modern reinterpretations of jazz standards.
