Samuel Chan is an internationally acclaimed Hong Kong-based percussionist and "jazz drum guru." A Juilliard graduate and multi-award winner, he blends technical mastery with versatility, performing globally as a soloist, orchestral musician, and educator.
Samuel Chan is an internationally acclaimed percussionist and drummer based in Hong Kong, known for his versatility and technical mastery. He is a top prize winner in several of the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the Percussive Arts Society International Solo Percussion Competition, the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, the Great Plains International Marimba Competition, and the Hong Kong Young Musician of the Year Competition. As a soloist, Chan has performed with the Houston Symphony and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. His extensive orchestral experience includes positions and performances with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He has been a regular at world-class summer festivals such as the Lucerne, Verbier, Edinburgh, and Pacific Music Festivals. Additionally, he toured Europe as Co-principal with the World Percussion Group and has collaborated with renowned chamber musicians including Lawrence Lesser, Angelo Xiang Yu, Orli Shaham, and Aiyun Huang. In the jazz community, Chan is recognized as a "jazz drum guru," providing instruction in jazz drumming fundamentals and performing across the region. His academic background is equally distinguished, holding an Artist Diploma from the Colburn School and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, with prior studies at the New England Conservatory and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
