Tonight, where's the jazz?

Samuel Chan Trio - Tribute to great drummers
Samuel Chan, one of Hong Kong's premier jazz drummers, brings his deep connection to the New York jazz scene to the stage. Having studied under masters such as Ted Lo, Peter Retzlaff, Chris Coleman, and Kendrick Scott, Chan has absorbed a diverse range of cultural and musical styles. In this special tribute, he joins forces with bassist Nelson Fung and saxophonist Jonas Cho to honor the legendary figures who shaped modern jazz drumming. The performance features a curated selection of music paired with insightful commentary, guiding the audience through the evolution of jazz percussion. The repertoire serves as a mini-history of the craft: from the joyful swing of Baby Dodds' "Sweet Georgia Brown" and the exotic rhythms of Jo Jones' "Caravan," to the complex power of Elvin Jones, the explosive energy of Tony Williams, and the poetic subtlety of Paul Motian. This is a must-attend event for those looking to explore the history of jazz drums through high-energy live performance.
