Golden Melody Award-winning pianist YuYing Hsu is a leading figure in Taiwanese jazz. Trained in New York, she blends classical precision with experimental improvisation, bridging acoustic and electronic sounds with a unique, irreplaceable artistic character.
YuYing Hsu is a highly acclaimed Taiwanese jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and music producer. Originally trained in classical music, she graduated from the Department of Library and Information Science at National Taiwan University before pursuing advanced jazz studies in New York. During her four and a half years in the NYC scene, she evolved into a professional artist, performing at prestigious international jazz conferences and representing Taiwan at official cultural events. Currently, she serves as a lecturer at National Dong Hwa University and the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH) Jazz Camp, as well as an instructor for the Sizhukong jazz training program. Hsu's discography is highlighted by her fifth album, "In the Cave," an experimental project blending acoustic improvisation with electronic elements. This work was created alongside bassist Jay Cheng and drummer Weichung Lin, and its creative process was captured in the documentary "Triptych," directed by Yang Wei-hsin. A Golden Melody Award winner, Hsu is celebrated for her unique improvisational style and her philosophy that while technique is built through rigorous practice, an artist's individual character is irreplaceable.
