Tonight, where's the jazz?

Alan Kwan x Bowen Li
Hong Kong guitarist Alan Kwan has established a distinctive and mature musical voice through a series of acclaimed projects. From 'Petrichor' to 'Between Now and Never,' his work demonstrates a continuous exploration of melodic contour, sound design, and structural clarity, earning him multiple Golden Melody Award nominations. On April 30, Alan reunites with pianist Bowen Li. The duo first collaborated on the 'Grain Rain' project at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, using improvisational dialogue between guitar and piano to sketch the density and rhythm of spring rain. This performance returns to a pure sonic level, directly showcasing their shared sensibilities in tone, harmony, and dynamics. The repertoire will include original compositions from 'Grain Rain,' tracks from Alan’s collaborative album with Masaki Hayashi, 'Liquid Sunshine,' and selected jazz standards. By weaving these materials together, the duo will engage in open improvisation within familiar melodic frameworks, extending and reshaping the musical direction of each piece.
