A CNSMDP-trained flutist and award-winning soloist, Chiawen Oh blends classical precision with jazz elegance. Nominated for the Golden Melody Awards, she is a versatile performer and educator bridging international stages and crossover genres.
Chiawen Oh is a distinguished flutist from Yunlin, Taiwan, whose career spans a decade of rigorous study and performance in France. A rare talent, she graduated with a second-stage higher diploma from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) and earned the Concertiste diploma from the École Normale de Musique de Paris (ENMP) as one of the youngest recipients in the institution's history. During her time in Europe, she studied under masters such as Shigenori Kudo, Philippe Pierlot, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Philippe Bernold, and Pierre Dumail. Her international accolades are extensive, including first prize and the audience award at the 21st Biwako International Flute Competition in Japan (2016), first prize at the Città di Murata International Flute Competition in Italy, second prize at the 9th Cimarosa International Flute Competition, and third prize at the Asian Flute Federation (AFF) Competition. In 2019, she secured second prize at the HKIFA Hong Kong International Flute Association Competition. Professionally, Oh has served as the Principal Flutist for the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Paris and the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan. Her versatility extends into the realm of chamber music as a member of the La Lumière Flute Quartet and the Ars Nova Chamber Sinfonietta Orchestra. In 2021, she was named a brand artist for Korea's Song Flute Headjoint. Beyond the classical stage, she has become a significant figure in the jazz and crossover scenes. Her 2022 debut album, 'Les Nuances Nocturnes,' which blends classical and jazz elements, was nominated for 'Best Crossover Music Album' at the 34th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music. Her jazz contributions include performing with the Mosaic Jazz Quintet at the 2023 Taipei Jazz Festival and collaborating with pianist Yih-Shiou Sung in the Galaxy Quintet. Her work also appears in film scores such as 'The Blind Lawyer' and 'The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon,' and she was selected for the 40th-anniversary Taiwan tour of the musical 'Les Misérables' in 2025. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Tainan National University of the Arts and Tunghai University.
