Elroy is a multi-instrumentalist and drummer known for his work with Crowded House and Wild Nothing. His solo debut blends lo-fi psychedelia with hazy falsetto harmonies, creating a weightless, atmospheric sound that is both bold and assured.
Elroy (Elroy Finn) is a professional drummer and multi-instrumentalist whose career spans extensive international touring, studio recordings, and solo production. Born into a prominent musical family as the son of Neil Finn, Elroy was surrounded by instruments from a young age, leading him to develop proficiency in drums, vocals, guitar, keyboards, and production. He has earned 31 performance credits on major releases, including playing drums on Crowded House's "Time on Earth" and "Dreamers Are Waiting," as well as Neil Finn's "Dizzy Heights." His collaborative work includes performing the Split Enz classic "I Got You" alongside his father Neil, his uncle Tim Finn, and his brother Liam Finn. Before launching his solo career, Elroy spent years touring and collaborating as a drummer and multi-instrumentalist with various groups, including Wild Nothing and Connan Mockasin, in addition to extensive worldwide tours with Liam Finn and Crowded House. On August 13, 2021, he released his debut self-titled album under Grand Phony Records. The project was entirely written, produced, recorded, and mixed by Elroy himself. The album is characterized by a hazy, lo-fi psychedelic sound designed to evoke a weightless atmosphere. New Zealand’s Sunday Star-Times described the record as a "sturdy wee slab of lo-fi psychedelia" with layers of falsetto harmonies, comparing Elroy’s vocal performance on the single "Worth The Wait" to a "Brazilian bossa nova singer parachuted into the middle of an indie pop song." The New Zealand Listener Magazine praised the work as "bold and assured," noting his ability to use melodic tropes while draping them in a "shimmering, beguiling gauze." His discography as a solo artist includes the singles "Excite Me Much," "Life Is At Home," and "Lost Our Mystery."
