Jeff Lehmberg is a versatile Hong Kong-based double bassist with deep roots in classical and jazz. A Juilliard-trained musician and HK Phil member, he is a vital figure in the local jazz scene, performing with groups like TxT Ensemble.
Jeff Lehmberg is a double bassist based in Hong Kong with a diverse background in both classical and jazz music. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and raised in Kansas, he pursued his education at Columbia University in New York City, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy while simultaneously studying bass at The Juilliard School. After a period teaching in Los Angeles as part of the Teach for America program, he returned to New York to study double bass performance at the Mannes College of Music. Lehmberg joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005, later serving as Principal Bass for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta for one season before returning to the HK Phil in 2007. In addition to his orchestral career, he is an active freelance jazz bassist in the Hong Kong scene, performing regularly with various ensembles including the TxT Ensemble alongside guitarist Tjoe Man Cheung, tap dancer Tansei, and trumpeter Farley Angel.
