Hong Kong trombonist Ivan Tong is a versatile performer spanning classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. A member of CouLisseMen and Shining Brass, he frequently collaborates with Joyce Cheung, blending genres with technical mastery and creative flair.
Ivan Tong (Tong Ching-ho) is a Hong Kong-based trombonist known for his versatility across classical, jazz, and contemporary music. A graduate of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Department of Music, Tong has been an active performer in the local scene for over a decade. In 2013, he became a member of CouLisseMen, a trombone ensemble dedicated to promoting trombone chamber music in Hong Kong, which debuted at SliderAsia 2013 and performed internationally in Shenzhen. In 2018, he co-founded Shining Brass, a local brass quintet coached by Mr. Homer Lee of the Hong Kong Philharmonic, aiming to promote brass music through educational and public performances. Tong is also a frequent collaborator with prominent jazz artists, notably performing as part of the Joyce Cheung Ensemble in the "Gingers’ Tonic" series, where he contributed to cross-genre arrangements of classical and pop masterpieces into jazz styles. In addition to his performance career, he is actively involved in music education.
